The idea of getting cancer from searching through the rubble of Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks — and then standing guard over it for months — didn’t occur to Kevin Zweigbaum. It did cross his mind that the swirling dust and fumes from the shattered World Trade Center might be unhealthy. Now retired, the New York City police sergeant vividly remembers raising the idea with workers from the Environmental Protection Agency who were at the site. “The biggest thing that stuck in my head was just dealing with the EPA and asking how the air was, and them just smiling and saying it was fine,” recalled Zweigbaum, who now has lymphoma. “I was so naive and stupid because just everything was covered with from From https://johnher1.blogspot.com/2019/07/why-its-so-hard-to-predict-how-much.html From https://michaelwalton2.blogspot.com/2019/07/why-its-so-hard-to-predict-how-much.html from https://michaelwalton5.wordpress.com/2019/07/24/why-its-so-hard-to-predict-how-much-funding-9-11-first-responders-need/ from https://reneegoodall.blogspot.com/2019/07/why-its-so-hard-to-predict-how-much.html The mTOR gene is deeply involved in the regulation of cellular activities in response to nutrient sensing. It is also implicated in the many, many changes that occur to slow aging in response to a restricted calorie intake, including processes known to be important to aging such as mitochondrial function and cellular senescence. Given that most research to date on intervention in the aging process has focused on the calorie restriction response and related upregulation of stress response mechanisms, it is no surprise that mTOR has attracted a lot of attention. The first mTOR inhibitor drugs are already going through clinical trials, developed by companies such as resTORbio and Navitor Pharmaceuticals. It is unfortunate that this strategy for modulating the pace of aging has far larger effects from From https://johnher1.blogspot.com/2019/07/the-role-of-mtor-as-regulator-of.html from From https://michaelwalton2.blogspot.com/2019/07/the-role-of-mtor-as-regulator-of.html from https://michaelwalton5.wordpress.com/2019/07/24/the-role-of-mtor-as-a-regulator-of-lifespan/ from https://reneegoodall.blogspot.com/2019/07/the-role-of-mtor-as-regulator-of.html Sexually objectifying women leads women to objectify themselves and harms emotional well-being7/23/2019 In our research, one-third of women experienced sexual objectification at least once. From shutterstock.comHow does a woman feel when a man wolf-whistles at her from across the street? Or when a male coworker gives her body a fleeting once-over before looking her in the eye? These examples may seem relatively innocent to some, but our research has found they can have negative consequences for women’s emotional well-being. We asked women to record any incidents of sexual objectification on a smartphone app, alongside rating their feelings several times each day for a week. When women experienced sexual objectification, in many cases it led them to scrutinise their physical appearance, which negatively impacted their emotional well-being. However, for people with type 2 diabetes, these wounds can be life-threatening. Connor is officially a one year old aka a toddler. WHAT!? Where did the time go. The first year of Tommy’s life was LONG and Connor’s felt the complete opposite. I like doing these updates as a sort of baby book so whether you like them or or not, I like having them here on my blog for my own reference. Unlike for Tommy, I did not do a big birthday party but a casual get together at the beach with pizzas and cupcakes. It was so much less stress. How big is Connor? Sooo big.
